The Divine Mrs S Tickets - Hampstead Theatre

“Stop writing? This was your first play. Did William Shakespeare let Titus Andronicus put him off? An experimental tragedy about a pie? You’ve just begun!”

Drury Lane, London, 1800. Universally acclaimed as the greatest actress of all time, Mrs. Sarah Siddons holds complete sway over critics and the public alike. But despite her fame, she is subjected to direction from the men in her life - her bone-headed brother who chooses her roles and runs the theatre, and her faithless husband who collects her fees and signs her contracts. Siddons decides that the time has come to become the leading lady of her own life story, and harnesses the power of her star quality as the world’s first female celebrity to take control of her destiny – but she hadn't reckoned with the absurd comic plot-twists of a life on stage…

The Devine Mrs S is April De Angelis’ hilarious backstage comedy which recalls the origins of British celebrity culture – before fame automatically granted power and wealth.

Anna Mackmin is back at the Hampstead Theatre for the first time since directing Di and Viv and Rose, which transferred to the West End. Her other productions include The Real Thing, Dancing at Lughnasa, and Hedda Gabler (all Old Vic).

Hampstead Theatre Seating Plan

Although the venue first opened back in 1959 as a Scout Hall, it wasn’t until 2003 that what is now the purpose-built Hampstead Theatre finally opened to the public featuring two performance venues.  The Hampstead Theatre is now home to many new writing and ground-breaking productions in London prior to them making the transfer into the West End.

The intimate and cosy theatre has a seating capacity of 325, and has attracted some of the world’s greatest talent over the years,  including Jude Law, Tamsin Greig, John Malkovich, and Felicity Kendal, who have all appeared in shows at the venue.

A nice modern venue with good facilities and decent viewing angles and good sound throughout. Some of the Dress Circle seats are a little cramped and lacking in legroom and width and some seats within the theatre feature slight restrictions due to pillars so studying the seating plan prior to booking tickets to The Divine Mrs S is recommended.
